Climbing Back Into The Saddle

Hello Blog Friends

Long time no squeak. Many apologies.
Life events took over the front seat, but hopefully now I’m climbing back into the saddle.

So, what’s new? Well, we have a new addition to the family.
Her name is Lecien and she wandered into my life at the warehouse after being abandoned in the middle of the Ras Al Khor industrial estate where I used to work.
Little did I know at the time, she was pregnant. (Probably why she was thrown out of house and home)
Anyway, as is the nature of cats she chose me as her new human and hasn’t left my side since. Three of her four kittens have wonderful forever homes with my lovely colleagues while the tom kitty was usefully employed as a mouser in the warehouse.
Lecien is most definitely a sewer’s cat. I’m sure, if she could, she’d be at my sewing machine when I go out. Here she is checking out one of my “toys” giving it her seal of approval. What can I say, cats and boxes…. so true.

Other new things are:
I have finally joined the 21st centaury human race – I have a smart phone!
Remember the Apple sales guy form my previous post waaaaay back when?
He was right! Aaaand, not only that, I also acquired a tab; not just any old tab but a note tab (I really cannot give up my pencil, not just yet)
Now that I have the tech, I need to get to grips with the other the stuff to make it all work.  So far so good, I hope.

My new passion is Lori Holt’s Bee In My Bonnet “Farm Girl Vintage”.
OoowMyGosh, I love her stuff sew much!
Check out her blog for this amazing book and others by her.

Technology: Blessing or a Curse, Delete As Appropriate (or not)

Hello My Lovely Blog Friends
Firstly, my apologies for being away for so long. It’s been simply ages since my last post.
The reasons are many varied: life (we all know that one) but mainly trying to get to grips with new technology.

Just before Christmas I went to buy my son his much coveted iPad mini.
For the last year or so he had saved like mad to procure his beloved prize (I said that I would pay half if he managed to save half, and much to my astonishment he did)
So, off we scrurried to his favourite shop, whose name is the same as a famous airline, to do the deed.

Now I wonder, how many times have you been to a shop after you have either saved like mad or screwed up the courage to take the plunge and splurge your hard earned/saved cash only to find that either it’s sold out or has been superseded by the latest model?
Well, you guessed it. The the iPad mini “is no longer made” and has been “taken over” (the Apple sales person’s words not mine) by the iPad Air. Deep inhalation of breath as my son’s eyes start brimming with tears.
Not only is the object of his desire no longer available, the replacement is hideously more expensive than we had budgeted.
After what must have been hours of “back and forth” with the Apple guy about specs, cost, advantages of retina displays, memory, price etc etc and the strained negotiation with my son that the balance of the cost will have to be his Christmas present, I was finally dragged “kicking and screaming” to the cash desk to pay for a spanking whizzy iPad Air…..

Next came the setting up process which was more like a kindergarten session, lots of baby steps. The Apple guy, up to this point, was very tolerant and understanding of my tech-ignorance, so far so good, until he mentioned “your smart phone”
Errrr.
I pulled my faithful old brick out from my back pocket and the guy had a virtual dicky fit and called me a “dinosaur”
At this juncture he could really call me anything, the wretched thing had been paid for and he was doing me a HUGE favour….
He prophesied that I would be back to get myself a “smart phone” within the next three months.
Anyway, after the hurumphing and the verbal slapping I gave the Apple guy I left the shop with a joyful son and empty wallet.

More to follow……

In the meantime here are a few pics of what I’ve been working on. You see the irony there?
